Deadly

Directed by Deborah Pope and premiering at Downstage, Wellington. An Awkward Production

Sixty minutes of breathtaking physical theatre, Deadly is an award winning portrayal of a relationship of a man, a woman and the 7 Deadly Sins.

Using circus, theatre and dance, Deadly explores the balance of power that exists in all relationships, “creating one stunning image after another, leaving the audience breathless with admiration for the beauty of the human form”. The Scotsman

Originally commissioned and created in Brazil, Deadly is performed in NZ by Argentinean artists Virginia Molina and Rodrigo Oses.

Rodrigo Oses

Born in 1977 in Argentina, Rodrigo started his training  in 2000 at the circus school  La Arena, specializing in Chinese pole. In 2005 he joined the circus company La Arena and premiered Sanos y Salvos, directed by Gerardo Hochman.  2008, La Vuelta al Mundo and the creation of his own company with Virginia Molina.  In 2009,  in NZ, he has performed in  Happy Home Road (with The Loons Company for the Christchurch Arts Festival) and Circus Proms (with the Wellington Circus Trust).  In 2010 he worked with the director Deborah Pope, creating the show Stop Number 60 & Deadly .

Virginia Molina

Born in 1980, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Virginia trained at the circus school La Arena, performing Vibra, followed by  Medea and Vaiven. In 2003,she  travelled to Belgium to study at the circus school ESAC, where she specialized in swinging trapeze. In 2005, Virginia returned to Argentina to join the circus company La Arena and premiered Sanos y Salvos, directed by Gerardo Hochman. After travelling to NZ, in 2009, she participated in Happy Home Road ( The Loons Company, Christchurch Arts Festival) and Circus Proms (Vector Wellington Orchestra,The Wellington Circus Trust).   In 2010 with Awkward Productions and director Deborah Pope,  Virginia has created Stop Number 60, a children’s show and re-presentation of Deadly.

Deadly was commissioned and created in Brasil by Deborah Pope and Rodrigo Matheus. Originally directed by Sandro Borelli, awardwinning dance theatre director ,it has won 4 international prizes (Edinburgh Total Theatre Award, 1999, Sesc,  Sao Paulo) and has toured to International Festivals in Germany, UK, Spain, Mexico, Brasil and Australia.
